Smithers St Joseph’s Playground Project needs additional 40k by the new year

A project to rebuild a playground at St Joseph’s school in Smithers is nearing its final faze.

The Equipment Replacement Project is looking to raise 40 thousand dollars to top uP costs for new equipment explains organizer Mindy Stroet.

“Our playground equipment hasn’t been replaced for at least 30 years. So it’s starting to show it’s age,” says Stroet.

She’s focused on making sure “kids are moving and active,” with the school picking out more challenging and fun equipment.

“I know (kids) like sitting in front of a computer…but we want them active, developing their motor skills and enjoying the outdoors.”

She says they have about half of the money raised, with plans to have the new playground pieces installed by the spring. The plan is to have the money in and orders placed by the new year.
