Smithers council will decide on increasing the airport modernization budget by 2.17 million dollars at a public meeting today at 5:30 p.m.
That means borrowing an additional one million dollars that will increase yearly debt costs by 54 thousand and another 1.17 million to come from grants and reserves.
Cost escalation and geothermal are some of the reasons for the costs increase.
To borrow money, the town has to hold an alternative approval process where 10 per cent of voters can disagree to stop it.
Four million dollars has already been approved through the Gas Tax Grant for the expansion project.
The public meeting will be at the Smithers council chambers.
