Gitwangak members hold demonstration at band office today

Several Gitwangak members are demonstrating at the Gitwangak Band council today.

There since 11 a.m., Anita Davis, (also Hereditary Chief Skayan ) says they’re protecting the Gitwangak Education Society from being taken over.

“We are here to evict the co-managers that are here for the band office and to evict the band manager…we have lost confidence in the chief Councillor and council and are calling for a by-election,” says Davis, who maintains it’s a peaceful people’s movement.

Davis says they’ve been accused of trespassing with 40-50 Gitwangak members and RCMP on scene. She also say’s they’ve served the band with an ‘eviction notice.’

We’ll have more details once they’re available.
