Getting an emergency response helicopter service in Northern BC is still being pushed by one organization. The Helicopter Emergency Rescue Operations Society or HEROS has started a social media and mail marketing campaigns to raise awareness about the group. Executive Director Roberta Squire says they also have a road tour in the works.
“We’ll take that big, yellow HEROS truck, you’ve seen around town throughout the North,” says Squire, “talking to communities, their medical centres, Rotary Clubs and the businesses in those areas.”
Squire says they are modelling their service after STARS in Alberta with the government and the public chipping in for the service. She says they hope to have emergency helicopters in the air by mid-2015.
