Back to school means back to school zone speeds

With school now officially back in session, ICBC is asking you to keep your eyes peeled for students. School zone speeds are in effect from eight am to five pm and posted at 30 km/h. Road Safety Coordinator Diana Pozer says across the province, five children are killed in school zones, and 209 are injured.

“But in our region, the north central region, on average one child pedestrian aged 5-18 is killed and 12 injured in 12 crashes every year,” says Pozer, “and that of course is far too many.”

Pozer says parents should be reviewing the rules of the road with their children. Also children should not walk between parked cars and use cross walks.
