The Village of Telkwa has won the Public Sector Collaboration award at the annual Union of BC Municipalities Conference.
Councillor Rick Fuerst says they received the recognition because of the biomass district energy partnership with School District 54.
“It was almost a no-brainer to do it, for our uses but when we looked around and started talking with our neighbours there, one being the Telkwa school, they were really on bored with it. Once you start seeing that collaboration and we secured the grant, it was great.”
Fuerst adds the partnership with the school was essential to system funding, design and development plus the school is an important customer of the system.
