Smithers family climbing Kilimanjaro to raise money for Children's Hospital.

A Smithers family is climbing Africa’s highest peak next week to raise money for the B.C. Children’s Hospital.
Laura Mackay says she is tackling Kilimanjaro with her parents and her daughter to give back to the hospital that helped her baby that was born with down syndrome three years ago.
“She had a congenital heart defect that required open heart surgery,” she says. “At five months old she went down to B.C. Children’s Hospital and had the surgery to repair all the defects. She was in the hospital for about a week and has had no troubles since.”
The group is doing the fundraiser with an organization called Summit of Hopes. So far the Mackay family has raised $27,000. Anyone wishing to make a donation can still do so on the Summit of Hope’s website. Updates on the climb will also be made available on that site.
