Flight forced to turn back to Terrace

A flight out of Terrace had to make an emergency landing yesterday.

Terrace RCMP Cst. Angela Rabut says crews were called out to the airport for Hawkair flight 1-1-3 which left Terrace for Vancouver but had to turn back due to a mechanical issue.

“So the flight crew made the decision to return and we were called out to be on stanby. The aircraft made a fly by and a visual was made and the landing gear was observed to be out and so the aircraft landed with no incident.”

Rabut says fire, ambulance and RCMP crews were at the airport just in case.

According to Rabut there were 16 passengers and three crew on board the plane.

The mechanical issue has been identified and will be fixed before the plane will return to service.

Airport manager, Carman Hendry called the response from airport and emergency personnel well coordinated as a result of multi-agency preparedness training.
