Torch bearers for the Canada Winter Games announced

Several northern BC residents have been chosen to be torch bearers for the 2015 Canada Winter Games Torch Relay, including a handful from the Bulkley Valley and Lakes District.

Dominique Melanson from Hazelton says it was a real honour to be chosen. However she isn’t sure who nominated her or why.

“Maybe because of my involvement with volleyball…. I went to the aborginal games in July and I coached a team with my dad. So maybe that is why? I’m still trying to be involved in sports in my community because it is big deal around here.”

Also from Hazelton, Shirley Belisle was chosen.  And from Moricetown, Helen Nikal, from Smithers, Cormac Hikisch and Joe Ellis and the mayor of Burns Lake, Luke Strimbold were also picked to carry the torch from the region.

The relay will start on November 4th
