After public outcry, Smithers town council has decided to reverse their decision to close Ranger Park Preschool.
Resident and parent, Charla Kilback made a presentation to councillors last night stating its importance and gave a petition with over 500 signatures on it in favour of keeping the school open.
She was surprised with the outcome.
“I’m super excited about it, she says. “I am quite surprised. I was thinking we might get an extension until June 30 but this is awesome.”
Council had decided last month to close the preschool because of budget concerns and the drop in students this year.
The plan was to close it by January 1 but they decided to keep it open and look at options to increase enrollment.
