A new off-leash dog park is coming to Smithers soon.
Council decided at last night’s meeting that one can be built beside Heritage Park as long as it doesn’t cost the town any money.
Jessy Taggart, who leads a group of residents calling for the park is happy with that spot.
“We want an off leash dog park where dogs can go and play and socialize,” she says. “Not everyone in Smithers has yards or has people to socialize their dogs with. We want to have the park set up so that it is safe for the dogs, the people and the surrounding area.”
The group has been trying to get a dog park for two years now. Taggart says they will now be fundraising for fencing and signage.
