Affordable housing key election issue

Affordable housing seems to be a hot election issue in Smithers.
Most town councillor candidates have stated its something they are campaigning on.
Mill worker Daune Mitchell says it is the top of his list.
“You can always talk about economic development but if you don’t have a place for people to stay, it is pretty tough,” he says. “Or even for our local people that need housing and that.”
Farmer and musician Toby Moisey echos those concerns. “We do have a few homeless people that you see but we also have a lot that you don’t see,” he says. “I think we should do for them, more assisted living, more homes for people.
And Gladys Atrill’s goal is to make Smithers a better place for all to live.
“It is just the community I care about,” she says. “I hope I can contribute to it.”
In total, there are 9 candidates running for one of 6 spots.
The election will be held on November 15.
