The new arena being built in Smithers is on budget but not necessarily on time.
Town Council decided at last night’s meeting to give the developer a second extension on the deadline.
Mayor Taylor Bachrach says there are a couple of complicated reasons for the delay.
“This is a design-build project so there are decisions being made all along the way,” he says. “The important thing is to remember that this is a huge project for our community. It has gone really well and we are talking about a couple of months at the end to make sure that everything is done right.”
Originally, the town was hoping to have the project completed by the end of September but now the new arena should be ready by December.
