The countdown to the opening of the new Lakes District Hospital and Health Centre has started.
There are now less than a hundred days until the doors are open.
Northern Health Lakes District Health Service Administrator Marie Hunter says the community is getting excited for the new facility.
“Quite often in rural communities, their wealth is measured by their health facility,” she says. “This particular facility, the older site, was built in 1959 with upgrades along the way. It is pretty much at the end of its life. As you know, with the changes in standards in health care, delivery of health services is so different than it used to be in the past.”
Construction on the project began in 2013 and is slated to open in February.
