After months of debate and two public hearings, Smithers council has granted The Child Development Centre’s rezoning request.
This means the sale of the Smithers Christian Reformed Church to the BV CDC can go move forward.
Councillors were torn on which zone it needed to be converted to before any move could happen.
Neighbours for and against the rezoning spoke last night but councillors voted 3-2 in favour of the request.
CDC Director Kerri Bassett Kluss says is happy with the outcome.
“This has been a long pathway,” she says. “We’ve been going at this since February, we are very excited. We can move forward now. We can move forward as an organization in a new location that is inclusive and accessible for families in Smithers.”
The CDC will move into their new downtown location in early spring.
