Donaldson respects Farnworth's decision to leave NDP race

NDP MLA Mike Farnworth has dropped out of the NDP leadership race after realizing his chances of beating MLA John Horgan seemed unlikely.

Stikine MLA Doug Donaldson was supporting Farnworth but says he respects the decision he made to bow out of the race.

“I’m happy to support John. I discussed with him when he entered the race that I had already declared my support for Mike at that point but I let him know that I would be happy to work with him if he won. So now I am happy to work with him.”

Donaldson says Horgan’s experience serving as energy critic means he has knowledge of issues currently important in the North.

He says Horgan has also has a lot of experience in the Legislature.

It looks like Horgan will be the only candidate in the running to replace Adrian Dix as leader of the NDP as the deadline for candidates is May 1st.
