Rec centre gets big donation

The new Upper Skeena Recreation Centre project is one step closer to construction thanks to a large donation.

New Hazelton mayor Gail Lowry says the Bulkley Valley Credit Union has donated $100,000 to the new arena.

Lowry says the arena will host skating and hockey in the winter and ball sports, field hockey and community programs in the summer.

“We don’t have anything else here. It’s something for the kids, the kids need something to do. It’s good for physical activity and health and we are hoping to run programs even for the elderly and different things in there.”

Bulkley Valley Credit Union’s branch manager, Tamia Hatler says the donation is the largest the Credit Union has ever made.
