The Telkwa Volunteer Fire Department is looking for a few more helping hands.
Fire Chief Randy Cunningham says they have 19 members now but ideally he’d like 26.
“When I joined the department 21 years ago, we had 25 members. But now it is a struggle to keep our membership above 20 so we aren’t meeting our full potential. But we do have a strong core group,” he says.
Cunningham says it is so important to have a full membership so that the department can be available at every emergency.
Anyone over the age of 18 that lives within the fire protection area and is in good health can join.
He adds volunteer-hopefuls also need to have a valid class 5 drivers’s licence and be willing to submit to a criminal check.
