Moose on the loose

Several moose have been seen hanging around Smithers lately.

Conservation officer Kevin Nixon says people need to expect to see wild animals in the area.

“Some of the calls we are getting lately, some people are coming out of their houses and surprising a moose that is bedding down in the yard,” he says.  “It is the surprise element that is causing aggression in the moose, so people need to be very aware of their surroundings.”

Nixon says if you see a moose,  the most important thing to do is to give it lots of space.

If the animal becomes aggressive, get out of its path.
