SAGA to conduct homeless count

The Smithers Action group will doing a count of the homeless people in town this week.
Project coordinator, Nicole Oud says the point is to figure out the number of individuals living in Smithers that do not have access to permanent housing.
“We are doing the homeless count as part of a larger project that SAGA is working towards which is to build a supportive living housing unit,” she says. “As part of our work to achieve that goal, we are putting on the count to get an idea of the number of homeless individuals in Smithers.”
The count will take place on Thursday night and on Friday teams of volunteers will be walking around the community interviewing people.
Oud says the information will be collected and turned into a report, which should be out in the new year.
Anyone interested in helping out and has experience working with the homeless can contact the Smithers Action Group.
