BC Hydro rate payers will be on the hook for last week’s planned power outage.
Community relations coordinator Dave Mosure says they had to turn off the power so crews could safely replace insulators on a main transmission line.
He said vandals shot and damaged the insulators and they had to be fixed fast.
“The damage caused had to be repaired immediately as the potential for more significant damage was imminent. If these compromised lines were subjected to humidity, which the weather was working hard to deliver, there would be potential for flash over which could have resulted in more damage and a longer power outage,” he says.
Mosure says crews had to be diverted from other work projects to deal with the emergency situation.
