BC workers averaged $934 per week in April

BC residents had a little more money in their pocket thanks to a year-over-year increase in weekly earnings.

The provincial average rose to $934.27 in April, which is an increase of 1.4% from the same period last year but is still $37 below the national average of $971.

BC remains in the middle of the pack amongst all the provinces.

Here are the top four.

Alberta $1,125.69
Newfoundland and Labrador $1,032.39
Saskatchewan $1,004.61
Ontario $983.18

The Northwest Territories earn the most per week among all the territories at $1,387.19

Several sectors continue to benefit BC says Stats Canada Analyst Dylan Saunders. “In British Columbia, the highest average weekly earnings were in mining, quarrying and oil and gas extraction at $1741 and the ones that contributed most to the rise were finance and insurance and educational services.”

The number of non-farm payroll employees in the province also saw a spike. “The number non-farm payroll employees in British Columbia rose 0.3 per cent or 7,000 in the month and compared with the 12 months earlier the number of non-farm payroll employees rose by 3% or 63,500,” says Saunders.
