It was the hardest decision I ever had to make: Campsall

Mayor Mitch Campsall called it the hardest decision he’s ever made, but one he had to make.

We spoke to the Mayor last night during the evacuation of the District of 100 Mile House.

“Up to the time that we called it out, we were doing very well. The fire jumped the fire break very unexpectedly and we had no choice than to call for an evacuation just for the safety of our citizens and we’ve done that with their safety and in mind. I’m feeling like crap, to be honest with you that was the hardest decision I had to make but also the easiest at the same time.“

Roughly two thousand residents are now temporarily displaced due to the Gustafson blaze.

According to the BC Wildfire Service, the size of the fire is now over 5,000 hectares.

Most evacuees will likely end up in Prince George at the Emergency Evacuation Centre that has been set up.
