Sutherland Road and Big Bend Creek blazes making life difficult for fire crews

The Prince George Fire Centre has provided another update on the recent wildfires in the Regional District of Bulkley-Nechako.

Fire Information Officer Amanda Reynolds says the remaining fires are located in the Vanderhoof Fire Zone.

“The Sutherland Road blaze didn’t see any significant growth yesterday and we’ve got 81 firefighters on that fire today with heavy equipment and are continuing to work on the machine guard we’ve got guard around 90% of the fire. Big Bend Creek is now 2062 hectares and is still listed as out of control but crews are making good progress and continuing to make a guard.”

Reynolds adds they are keeping a close eye on the weather. “There is a cold-dry front is expected to hit the region could see some increased winds in the Vanderhoof area gusting to 50 km/hr and we are anticipating no potential increase in fire behavior.”

The Sutherland Road blaze remains at 1,590 hectares and is still 80% contained.

Evacuation Alerts are still in place for both locations.
