Smithers Riverside Campground will be free for wildfire evacuees

Wildfire evacuees will be getting a break on having to pay fees at the Riverside Campground in Smithers.

Council decided to waive the fee at last night’s meeting, saving evacuees $20 to $33 a day. The town says they’ll be making the official announcement this afternoon.

Smithers Mayor Taylor Bachrach says it’s one way the town can help. He says hearing stories of the generosity around town speaks well of the community.

“We all know that Smithereens are super generous and kind and giving, and this is just one more example of that in action,” says Bachrach.

with over 10,000 evacuees in Prince George, Smithers staff estimate there are over 100 evacuees staying in town alone.

To help with the Red Cross effort in Prince Goerge, the town has set up a fundraising page called Smithers Cares. so far over $1,400 has been raised to help those displaced by wildfires. You can click this link to help out.
