Very little rain the forecast for Smithers

Rain is not on the way for most of northern BC.

This will certainly hurt the chances of reducing any wildfires.

“The ridge will build further north and very hot and dry conditions will re-establish themselves and push up into the interior. In fact, by the middle part of next week, we are predicting highs of around 30 degrees for places like the Cariboo,” says Greg Pearce, with Environment Canada.

Weather conditions in the region including Smithers are predicted to remain dry.

“What we have is a very hot and dry air mass over the southern interior and further north it is quite a bit cooler up around Prince George with temperatures into the low 20s. In contrast, places like Kamloops are going to be up into the low to mid-30s over the next few days so you’re kind of in that transition zone between the very hot and the cooler air mass to the north,” says Pearce.

Today’s high calls for a mix of sun and cloud with a 40% chance of showers and a high of 20 degrees.
