The Smithers Airport is getting some new equipment to help with clearing the snow.
Council agreed to pitch in some of the money at their last meeting.
Airport Manager Rob Blackburn says the new runway sweeper won’t cost the town very much.
“The ACAP program funds heavy airside equipment at 95% so we will be paying 5% of the $280,000 it costs to buy it,” he says.
Blackburn says their current sweeper is over 20 years old.
This is the third new piece of snow clearing equipment the airport is getting this year, all mostly paid for through the federal grant program.
