BC workers take home $941 per week in July

BC workers took home over $941 dollars per week in July.

Stats Canada released its average weekly earnings survey, which sees BC still in the top 5 among the provinces.

The largest contributors to the increase were in educational services, wholesale trade and transportation and warehousing.

Only, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Newfoundland and Labrador and Ontario posted higher weekly earnings than the province.

However, BC saw the most growth in one area. “British Columbia was among the six provinces that had a year-over-year increase in average weekly earnings, In fact, BC had the largest growth among the provinces at 3.3% followed by Manitoba up 2.6% and Quebec which was up 2.5%,” said Gordon Song, an analyst.

A number of non-farm payroll jobs in the province also spiked up over the past year Song says. “Compared with a year ago actually, the number of jobs increased by 66,600 or 3.1%. In fact, the number of payroll jobs has been on an upward trend since 2010.”

Alberta posted the highest average weekly earnings among the provinces at $1,125.00.

The Northwest Territories led all territories in average weekly earnings at $1,397.98.

The average weekly earnings in Canada remained higher at $970.41.
