Chief commissioner of the MMIWG Inquiry says more hearings are planned for BC

Today is the last day of the Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls hearings in Smithers.

Chief Commissioner of the national inquiry Marion Buller says they expect to have hearings elsewhere in BC before May next year.

“Also, we have statement takers who are available to reach out to people all across Canada or for people who weren’t able to make it out to this hearing.”

Buller says by the end of the hearings in Smithers, the inquiry will have heard from 27 families and 12 private testimonies.

She says it’s still too soon to say what type of recommendations will come out of the inquiry.
