Smithers has concerns with proposed open burning smoke control regulations through the province.
Mayor Taylor Bachrach says they met with the provincial minister at the Union of BC Municipalities Convention in Vancouver.
“They’re reducing the requirements for venting forecasts in the area between 10 kilometres and 20 kilometres outside of communities. And as people know, smoke travels a lot farther than that in our valley,” says Bachrach.
He wants to make sure there’s stringent regulations around smoke control to help protect air quality in town.
