CNC Lakes District Campus sees a boost in fall enrollement

The College of New Caledonia (CNC) Lakes District Campus in Burns Lake has seen an enrollment increase of nearly 70 students since this time last year. That’s 150 registered students this fall compared to 81 last year.

“CNC Lakes has faced some enrolment challenges in the past couple of years, but we’re pleased to see the numbers go up at this point in the semester,” said CNC President Henry Reiser.

Executive Director of Communications Alyson Gourley says the numbers largely reflect an increase in programming.

The CNC says two new non-credit programs were launched this semester offering a variety of educational and employment pathways.

Gourley says Regional Principal Corinne George has done a lot of consultation in the community to figure out what the educational needs are.

“We work very closely with the community including our First Nations partners in the area. And the consultation that comes back from that helps influence the programming that we provide,” says Gourley.

The CNC campus in Burns Lake is also looking to launch a practical nursing program in January and a carpentry program the following month.
