Cullen to meet in Smithers on Liberal tax plan

Skeena Bulkley Valley MP Nathan Cullen is planning a meeting tonight with small businesses in Smithers on the federal government’s tax plan.

As part of the 2017 budget, the federal government is looking at closing tax loopholes for businesses aimed at bringing fairness to the tax system. The plan has been widely slammed by critics including Cullen, the NDP’s Deputy Finance Critic.

“These proposed legislative changes directly target small and mid-sized businesses, the backbone of our Northwest and Canadian economies, and completely ignore the biggest businesses and billionaires with offshore tax havens, which is where taxation reform and fairness is most urgently required.”

“The Minister now admits changes to the bad plan he put forward will be required and it’s critical the Liberal government continue to listen to constituents and MPs carry these common sense messages to Ottawa.”

The public can no longer make a formal comment on the proposed changes. However, Cullen is still planning meetings with constituents in Smithers tonight.

The meeting will be at the old Church this Thursday from 7 to 8:30 pm
