Smithers to spend 15k on Targeted Wood Stove Exchange program

Smithers is looking at a wood stove exchange program to help people swap out old, inefficient stoves.

Council approved spending 15 grand on the initiative that Mayor Taylor Bachrach says will provide an incentive to switch over.

“Ultimately, it’s about having cleaner air. And we want to make sure whatever incentive program we put in place achieves that objective,” says Bachrach.

He says they want to prioritize those that use a wood burning stove as a primary source of heat for the swap out.

Council also approved spending five grand on a marketing strategy to help educate the public on proper wood burning.
