UPDATE: Crews enter third day in search for Frances Brown near Moricetown

Crews are into their third day in the search for a missing woman in the backcountry near Moricetown.

53-year-old Frances Brown was reported missing Saturday evening after she didn’t return to the vehicle with her cousin while mushroom picking.

Three helicopters, the RCMP K9 Unit and over 50 people from both the Moricetown community and Smithers Search and Rescue have joined in the search effort in the Kitseguecla Lake Rd. area.

Priscilla Naziel, a first responder in the Moricetown community, says remanence of a second fire was found last night after a fire was also found Sunday evening.

“And they do believe there’s movement up there cause they did spot some tracks. They don’t know if it’s her’s or not. But, they are just being hopeful.”

The Moricetown Band said that there is access to food like mushrooms, berries and water in the backcountry area. Brown is also believed to have been well equipped for the outdoors with rain gear and even a lighter and also has backcountry experience.

With a risk for hypothermia in cooler conditions, crews are hoping to find Brown today, says Naziel. She says Brown is hard of hearing which may make search efforts more difficult.

Naziel says they’re overwhelmed with food donations from the community for the search and rescue workers and says no more donations are needed.
