Crews remain optimistic in the search for Frances Brown

Crews from across the province are going full steam in the search for Frances Brown in the Kitseguecla Lake Rd. area near Moricetown.

The 53-year-old has been missing for nearly five days after police say she lost her cousin while mushroom picking Saturday evening.

Brown is described as Aboriginal, 5 foot 8 inches tall, 119 pounds with long brown/grey hair and brown eyes and is also believed to be hard of hearing.

The Moricetown Band says rescue teams remain optimistic that Brown has enough resources to survive.

Chris Mushumanski, one of the search and rescue personnel, said on Wednesday a fire pit was located where branches were laid out indicating a direction of travel.

He says it’s not conclusive if the fire was Brown’s. Tracks found in the area are also hard to identify considering other mushroom pickers in the area, said Mushumanski.

Kitseguecla Lake Rd is becoming difficult to navigate with increased traffic, and the band is asking the public not to drive out to the site as it could hamper search efforts.

Two helicopters and the rescue dog team are reportedly searching the area.
