Stanley Cup coming to Smithers

The Stanley Cup is coming to Smithers.
Co-chair of the Smithers Celebrity Golf Tournament, Kent Delwisch, says the idea is to get the community excited for the upcoming charity tournament in August.
“Joe Watson, from the Philadelphia Flyers, wanted to bring the Stanley Cup to Smithers,” he says. “He and Jimmy won the cup two times in the 1970’s and at that time the players weren’t given the same opportunity to have the cup in their hometowns like they are now. So Joe thought it would be a good addition to our celebrity golf tournament.”
Delwisch says they weren’t able to secure the cup for the actual tournament dates but it will be in Smithers on March 17, which he says will be a good lead up to the event.
The cup has never been to Smithers.
More details on the cup’s schedule while in town will be available in the coming weeks.
