Smithers Mayor Taylor Bachrach is now part of a Climate Action and Clean Energy Growth Advisory Council with the province.
Bachrach says the aim of the council is to find ways to reduce green house gas emissions while growing the economy.
We have a lot of opportunities. I think often the climate action conversation is framed around sacrifice but really it’s a huge opportunity. We could be leaders in northern BC when it comes to energy-efficient buildings, biofuel, bioenergy,” says Bachrach.
The advisory panel, made up of 20 different members, is tasked with providing feedback to the government on action and policy.
The council will be meeting quarterly.
