Smithers Council decides to fix Rosenthal Road

Rosenthal Road in Smithers is ready for repairs.

Council has decided to spend $375,000 to restore part of the road near the Perimeter Trail.

Mayor Taylor Bachrach says the road was damaged after a deluge of rain in the summer.

Town staff incidated that if council waited until spring, there’s a risk of losing that section of road to the sloughing hill.

“Considering the risks of putting it off until spring, and the risks of doing it this fall, we felt that we wanted to go with staffs’ recommendations and get the repairs done as soon as possible. And we’ve allocated money from our Gas Tax reserves to do just that,” says Bachrach.

Once work starts, town staff have indicated that the road will be fixed in about five weeks.
