BC has banned the transport of oil in LNG pipelines however the NDP MLA for Stikine says that isn’t good enough.
Doug Donaldson says more needs to be done in order to prevent the conversion of natural gas pipelines to transport heavy oil.
“The best way to address that is through legislation,” he says. “I’m going to push that and I don’t know why the B.C. Liberals are afraid of debating that in a public forum which legislation would enable us to do instead of behind closed doors, which regulation allows.”
Donaldson introduced a bill in the fall that would put legislation in place to prevent such conversions but the session ended before it could go any further.
He is planning on reintroducing it again soon.
