Construction is almost complete on the new Lakes District Hospital and Health Centre.
Northern Health Lakes District Health Service Administrator Marie Hunter says the machinery is being delivered and set-up now.
“The majority of the equipment is new,” she says. “So there is a fair bit of training on all systems in the hospital, not just the equipment but right from air hamble units to the lighting to switchboards, to how we do our emergency procedures, to registration so there is a huge amount of work being done now.”
Construction on the project began in 2013 and is slated to open in February, six months ahead of schedule.
The old hospital will be demolished in the spring and the space will be used for parking.
