The Village of Burns Lake is making a donation ‘not your average’ donation to the Lakes District Food Bank (LFDB).
Mayor Chris Beach and council have decided to give the non-profit the old playschool facility, which has been closed for several years.
Beach says this space is much needed for the LDFB.
“Rather than going through renovations and investing ourselves into the property, we decided that we would give it to the food bank, and it seemed to be an easy win-win for everybody involved.”
Council put the building up for interest in the initial stages, and the LFDB was the only candidate who showed great enthusiasm according to Beach.
He adds the food bank is heavily utilized by the community.
“We just felt it was the right thing to do. We don’t always make decisions based on dollars and cents; sometimes, you have to do what’s best for the community and we felt led to give something back to them because they have given so much over the years.”
Beach says the Village is grateful for the hard work of the Food Bank’s volunteers.
The grand opening is taking place Tuesday morning.
