Local family donates 320 acres of Wetland

A local family has donated 320 acres of natural, unaltered wetland to Ducks Unlimited Canada.

The donation of land by the Andersen family, along with funding by the Habitat Conservation Trust Foundation has given Ducks Unlimited Canada and the Province of British Columbia the opportunity to conserve the natural state of 320 acres of untouched wetland habitat for many years to come.

The conservation of the property will protect habitat for migrating and breeding birds common to the area.

The wetland habitat in the Bulkley-Nechako Regional District also serves as a critical habitat for species at risk.

The donation and secured conservation of this property are important to the Andersen family who has owned the property for almost twenty years.

Father and son approached Ducks Unlimited about conserving the area and are pleased that the land will be kept for its “rightful purpose”.

There are few wetlands in BC that have not been modified in some way.

The Babine Lake is the longest natural freshwater lake in the province, spanning 177km tip to tip.
