The grand opening of the new Smithers arena is taking place tonight.
The idea of a second sheet of ice is more than 20 years in the making.
The new arena, which sits beside the civic centre, features an NHL sized ice surface, five dressing rooms, a referee room, indoor walking area and a viewing platform.
A ribbon cutting ceremony will take place at 6:30 pm and people are invited for a tour and a free public skate afterwards.
