Adoption Awareness Month in BC brings attention to Bulkley Valley

November is Adoption Awareness Month in BC.

This initiative highlights the need for children and teens currently waiting to join new loving families.

Over the past 10 years, approximately 270 children have been adopted in BC, however, there is an ongoing need for more adoptive families – particularly Indigenous families and families willing to take on sibling groups, teens and children with special needs.

There are new families to call your own in the Bulkley Valley, and the government has organized an event to help bring education and awareness to local residents.

In the spirit of the month’s awareness campaign, Celebrate Adoption Awareness will be in Smithers at the Bulkley Valley Recreation Center and Pool.

A free swim for the public from 2PM to 5PM on Sunday; social workers will be present to answer questions.

Currently, about 1,000 children and youth in BC are in need of a permanent home.
