Burns Lake budget meetings continue

The village of Burns Lake is meeting tonight to discuss their budget and there is one thing council would really like to figure out this evening.
The village has been trying to hammer out a lease agreement with the Burns Lake curling club for the use of the upstairs lounge.
Mayor Luke Strimbold says the village took over the rink more than ten years ago after the club couldn’t afford to maintain it and they have been paying $100 month since then.
However, he says that isn’t enough compared to other other village owned rentals and the recent high renovation costs that needed to happen recently.
He says they are trying to figure out a fair lease, given that the club is a not for profit organization.
“They have put a significant amount of volunteer hours into the facility so we need to acknowledge that as a council,” he says. “But at the same time, we will be responsible for the upgrades to the facility so we need to keep that in mind as well.”
The budget meeting starts at 6 p.m. tonight.
