A random audit of a Burns Lake logging company owned by the Wet’suwet’en First Nation has found some problems.
The Forest Practices Board assessed all timber harvesting, roads, silviculture, protection activities, and associated planning, carried out between September 2011 and October 2013.
The report says the company met most requirements of the Forest and Range Practices Act but failed to comply with the control of invasive plants.
The audit also discovered the company did not follow the Wildfire Act to reduce fire hazards after logging.
The company is now under new management and the Forest Practices Board has given them until the end February to fix the problems and report back.
