Houston Public Library turns 50

The Houston Public Library is celebrating its 50th anniversary this week.
Director Toni McKilligan says they have a long history that deserves to be recognized.
“It has been in its current location since 1984, they moved here from the municipal hall,” she says. “They were there for a few years in the 1970’s and 80’s and before that it was in a corner of the fire hall. So we’ve moved around a bit here.”
A party will be held on tonight at the library from 6 -8 pm.
The actual anniversary was last week but McKilligan says they wanted to combine the celebrations with Winterfest.
Everyone is welcome and cake will be served.
