Winter storm warning issued for Northern BC

Northern BC including the Bulkley Valley and Lakes District will need to buckle up for another blast of winter.

A winter storm warning has been issued by Environment Canada giving way to heavy snowfall in the region.

Meteorologist, Mike Gismondi says we can expect two massive dumps over the next 48 hours.

“The snow will continue through the morning and tonight as another system pushes on to the coast, we’re expecting about 10 to 20 centimetres tonight for Prince George and another 10 tomorrow, for the Bulkley Valley we will probably see a little bit more with 15 centimetres tonight and about 10 to 15 on Wednesday.”

He adds two systems back-to-back like this is pretty rare.

“It has certainly been an active week here in the northern interior with several snow events. After this one, we’re looking at snow today and tomorrow but heading into Thursday, Friday things are going to start drying out and hopefully, we’ll have a quiet time for a while.”

The white-out conditions should also make for some dicey road conditions according to Gismondi.

“If you can don’t travel and if you have to travel please drive to the conditions and to carry an emergency kit and tell people where you are going.”

Snow will begin this afternoon and intensify this evening.

The snow is already falling in places like Terrace and will continue to make its way north later this morning.
