The Smithers Action Group is planning on building a supportive housing complex to help get homeless people off the streets.
Board member Lydia Howard says there is currently nothing like it in town.
“The type of project we are looking at, there is a gap there, we are looking a housing project that would be one cohesive building. It would be like a complex so there is no supportive housing complex in Smithers currently,” she says.
Howard says the planning is still in the very early stages. The group has asked the town for support, endorse grant applications and for some land to build the complex on. Howard adds there will be community consultations before anything is built.
