Smithers council trying new way to engage public

Smithers town council is trying a new way to get feedback from residents about the future of the town.
Instead of asking the public to attend a meeting, council will go to them.
People can gather a group of friends on day that fits their schedules, where ever they like, to discuss what is important to them.
Mayor Taylor Bachrach says two councillors will join the group for the talk.
“This is an attempt to fine tune our citizen engagement initiatives and reach as many people as possible,” he says. “Smithers is a very diverse community, there are all sorts of world views and opinions out there and we want to make sure we hear from as many people as possible.”
The information gathered will be used when council has their priority setting session at the end of March.
Anyone interested in setting up a ‘Table Talk’ can contact the town hall at 250-847-1600.
